Games Played:

  • Strategic Farming (Group 2)

  • Sport Ants [there was no name for it :/] (Group 10)

  • Retail Escape (Group 12)

  • Food Fight (Group 14)

Game Analyzing: Strategic Farming

Formal Elements:

  • Players: 2 (You and your opponent.)

  • Objective: Create the most successful farm. (Make a profit.)

  • Procedures:

    • Rolling a die to determine the amount of moves you can do in a turn

    • When a worker is out for too long, the player has to draw a chance card.

    • Actions you can do:

      • Move workers, cows, and pigs

      • Buy more workers, cows, and pigs, dice

      • Sell off meat, milk, and cows

      • Sacrifice a pig for meat

      • Obtain the range (if you have enough money)

  • Rules: Plan your moves accordingly so that you gain enough of a profit and also survive winter.

    • You need 4 meats and $200 dollars to survive Winter.

    • Make sure to not have the workers stay out too long, or you’ll have to draw a chance card for every day they’re out too long!

      • Effects of the Chance Cards:

        • Bad Storm/Sick Day: Skip a turn

        • A cow/pig has gone missing: lose a cow/pig

        • Cow/pig birth: gain a new cow/pig

        • Find a new cow/pig: gain a new cow/pig

        • Special delivery: 2+ meats for you to sell

        • Bad Sale Day: All profits this turn are cut in half.

    • To qualify for getting a new pig, you must have interacted with the pigs at least 4 times. You also need to have at least two pigs in the barn.

    • You can’t get a pig immediately after buying it, it’ll take another turn before you can use it.

    • You need $200 to unlock the range.

    • Getting from the range to the farmhouse costs two turns. (You’d have to go from the farmhouse, to the barn, to the range.)

  • Resources:

    • Money: You use this to gain more resources. $200 is required to stay in storage to survive Winter.

    • Moves: The amount of actions you can take in a turn. Some actions cost multiple moves.

    • Cows: (begin with 2) You use them to gain milk. You can also sell them for $100.

      • Milk: Item for selling. Sell price is $15.

    • Pigs: (begin with 2) You sacrifice them to get meat.

      • Meat: Item for selling. 4 meats are required to stay in storage to survive Winter. Sell price is $40.

    • Workers: (begin with 4) They are required for many actions in the game and are also the tokens you need to watch out for to not suffer a possible penalty.

      • They are required to milk a cow. (Cows can’t milk themselves!)

      • They are required to move animals from one location to another.

      • Workers have to go back to the main house in order to sell the items.

    • Range: Once you have enough money to buy it, you can use it to get double profit from the milk sold.

    • Dice: (begin with 1) Determines the amount of moves you can take in one turn. This is the resource that controls how many actions you can take. Costs $50 to get another one.

  • Conflict:

    • In the early game, the amount of actions you have are very limited.

    • You also don’t have any money in the beginning.

    • When’s the best time to sacrifice the pigs?

    • Making sure to return all the workers to the main house for both safety and earning money

    • Are you gonna have enough money to survive Winter and get the Range?

  • Boundaries: The game itself (a piece of paper?)

  • Outcome: If you do not have 4 meats and $200 by the end of 10 rounds, it is an automatic loss. It might just be me reading it wrong, but there doesn’t seem to be a definite win condition.
